Rangpur Division

Rangpur Division is located in the northernmost part of Bangladesh, known for its fertile agricultural lands, rivers, and cultural diversity. The division was established in 2010 and has emerged as a key center for trade, education, and culture.

History

Rangpur has a rich historical background, including its role in ancient Bengal civilizations, Mughal administration, and British colonial period. The division played an important role during Bangladesh's liberation war in 1971.

Geography and Climate

The division consists of fertile plains, rivers such as Tista, Brahmaputra, and Dharla, and scattered forested areas. The climate is tropical monsoon with hot summers and mild winters.

Average annual rainfall is approximately 1,800–2,500 mm. Summers often reach 35°C, while winters drop to around 12°C.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture dominates Rangpur's economy, including rice, potatoes, sugarcane, and vegetables. Trade hubs, roads, and railway lines support local and national commerce. Small industries like weaving, pottery, and food processing contribute to economic diversity.
